Dottodot Festival, Nottingham 27.05.2007

As a joint-birthday treat me, Jamie and Neil went to Dottodot Festival in Nottingham. We saw 6 or 7 bands altogether. I have decided to accompany the pictures of each band with a short review of their performance.

First up were Blood Red Shoes. I hadn't really heard much by this band, but went to see them anyway. And I am glad I did as they were really quite good, despite "being hungover." We got a horrible vantage point with far too many bobbing heads between us and the stage to get any decent pictures.

The drummer threw up mid-set as well, which was very PFR.

The singer lady told a fun story of how she was beaten by a bouncer at her own gig. The bouncer is, and I qoute, "Going to prison." Quite right too. Bouncers are WANKERS

It was a shame they were on at about 2pm in a small venue full of sober thirtysomethings. Had they played Rock City (The biggest and best venue) later in the day, they could potentially have been the best band we saw. But I'm not the organiser (If I was, I would NOT have put Pull Tiger Tail at Rock City over these guys.) I'm gonna give BRS (abbreviations are douchebaggy, I know) a deserved score of 8/10

After Blood Red Shoes, it was on to Rock City to see Pull Tiger Tail.

Despite not knowing anything about them I expected a lot from this band. I think it's in the name. It conjures up images of exciting music in my head for some reason.

A very good point was raised: This guy looks like Bon Jovi from a distance.

The first song they played was pretty damn good and set me up for a very enjoyable hour of music. What a false dawn that was.

Every song from there on in was blah blah indie-by-numbers BLAAAAHHHHHHH.

The most annoying aspect of PTT (There are those abbreviations again) was not the Snow Patrol-type dullard music (Don't get me wrong, that was annoying too). It was the piece of shit 14 year olds 'moshing' behind us. It wasn't even moshing, which is a ridiculous thing to do anyway considering the gig they were at. It was just a load of testosterone filled shitbags battering each other because they could do so without actually fighting. Shit, I sound so old. I knew turning 20 would do this to me. But the fact remains they were a pain in the arse. I spent the whole time edging closer and closer to twatting one of them. But I am a pussy. So I slyly elbowed some in the back and punched one in the side of the head (weakly).

So, back to the music. It was dull. Simple as that. A good beginning was ruined by a shitty middle and end. I'm giving them 6/10. Pull Tiger Tail suck.

Straight after Pull Tiger BLAHHHH were Foals. I was looking forward to seeing Foals as I actually know their music and like it very much.

I liked how the band all stood in a circle and moved like they were convulsing.

At the end of their set, this guy dived into the crowd. But he really only dived into me. While I wasn't looking. So he just went down and I had a hurt wrist. Not the most successful stage dive of all time.

As I said, I like Foals before I saw them. After seeing them, I like them even more. if there is one con, it is that their songs all sound quite similar. For example, I was looking forward to hearing their song Hummer, and on mulitple occasions got all happy cos they were playing it, but they actually weren't. But I'm just being nit-picky. Foals get 8/10

Off to the student union next, to see Architecture In Helsinki. I knew a couple of their songs before seeing them, including Do The Whirlwind, which I was really looking forward to hearing as it is really good.

Oh, and this band's dress sense is amazing.

Their set was just so good. I wasn't expecting an awful lot, but it was brilliant

I loved everything about this band. The music, the clothes, the music again. I'm gonna give AIH 9/10

I'm gonna do the rest of this at a later date.
